An Artist’s Sketchbook for the Community

Unveiling July 25, 2026

About the Project

The Historic New England Center launches its Artist in Residence program with renowned artist Ruben Toledo’s community mural project, An Artist’s Sketchbook for the Community.

Historic New England invites visitors and artists to explore relationships between the past, present, and future through creative art making. As inaugural Artist in Residence, Toledo creates An Artist’s Sketchbook for the Community as an interactive community mural project that will walk through New England history, incorporating an A to Z theme. The project will bring the objects, spaces, people, and places of our collective past into dialogue with the present.
